US/UK Assistant Tax Manager 

Responsibilities:

 

·        Tax Compliance:

o   Manage the preparation and review of US and UK tax returns (Forms 1040, Form 8938, FBARs, UK Self-Assessment, etc.) for individual clients.

o   Ensure timely filing of tax returns, estimates, and extensions for clients with complex, multi-jurisdictional tax obligations.

o   Lead the preparation and organisation of procedures for clients with delinquent returns (SFOPs, SDOPs, Delinquent FBAR submission Procedures and WDFs).

o   Prepare responses and documentation to address inquiries from the IRS, HMRC, or other relevant authorities.

 

·        Cross Border Tax Planning & Advisory:

o   Assist senior members of team with research, consultations and prospective client processes.

o   Advise clients on tax-efficient structures, the tax implications of investments and punitive tax regimes in the US and UK.

o   Draft written memos relating to various tax matters including determining UK residency through SRT.

·        Client Relationship Management:

o   Serve as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of clients, providing a high level of service and addressing all tax-related queries.

o   Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring client satisfaction and retention.

 

·       Team Leadership:

o   Supervise and mentor junior tax team members, providing guidance on US and UK tax regulations and compliance.

o   Review the work of junior team members to ensure quality and accuracy.

o   Assist with the development and training of team members to enhance their understanding of tax issues for US citizens residing in the UK.

o   Support tax team lead (currently two tax teams) to create and maintain a high performing team. Become a capable deputy in the absence of the tax team lead.

 

Experience, Education & Qualifications:

·        Will likely have 3+ years of experience in tax, with a focus on US and UK individual taxation. In depth knowledge of the US and UK tax systems, including tax treaties and US expatriation rules.

·        Beneficial to be experienced in US treatment of foreign companies (Form 5471, GILTI, Form 8832 elections)

  • Attained or working towards professional tax certification such as EA (Enrolled Agent), ATT or CTA (Chartered Tax Adviser).
  • Familiar with tax filing systems including Pro-system FX and / or CCH Axcess.
