Role Overview

This role provides multi-jurisdictional VAT compliance services for a broad portfolio of corporate clients across a range of sectors with global operations. Previous VAT compliance experience is essential.

You’ll be responsible for managing a portfolio of clients, preparing VAT returns and supplementary declarations, filing returns, liaising with clients and filing agents, and ensuring deadlines and internal procedures are met. You may also support related services, such as liaising with tax authorities, VAT registrations, coordinating with overseas offices, and managing new client onboarding and transitions.

Success in this role requires strong self-management, regular communication with senior colleagues, and effective delegation. You’ll also be expected to identify and highlight opportunities for new business or service enhancements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a key contact for clients, responding promptly to queries and maintaining regular contact to provide updates and manage expectations.
  • Take full responsibility for delivering projects within your portfolio.
  • Manage a client portfolio, including billing and cash collection.
  • Prepare VAT returns and supplementary declarations.
  • Delegate and review work prepared by junior team members.
  • Liaise with tax authorities and manage onboarding/transition processes.
  • Complete assignments within agreed budgets and communicate with clients and leadership regarding project progress.
  • Adhere to quality control procedures and internal review processes.
  • Identify risk, technical issues, and commercial opportunities, and escalate appropriately.

Management Responsibilities

  • Provide support to partners and directors on client matters and contribute to team leadership, including recruitment and performance management.
  • Work collaboratively with other tax managers and provide support across the wider tax team.
  • Actively contribute to team development through meetings and social events.
  • Support and mentor junior staff, monitor performance, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Help appraise, motivate and develop team members.

Business Development

  • Identify business development opportunities and collaborate with leadership to develop them.
  • Contribute to new business bids and proposals.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Develop and maintain senior-level client relationships.
  • Liaise with other internal specialist teams to support client needs.
  • Work independently and take initiative while consulting colleagues on technical or risk-related matters.

Requirements

  • Significant VAT compliance experience.
  • Strong knowledge of VAT technical issues.
  • Experience managing a VAT compliance portfolio.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting/compliance software platforms.
  • Ability to manage a large and varied portfolio of clients.
  • Commercial acumen and experience identifying opportunities to offer additional services.
  • Experience engaging directly with tax authorities.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
