US/UK Private Client Tax Director
Location: London (near Liverpool Street)
Working Pattern: Full-time or Part-time (3–4 days per week considered)
Hybrid Working: 3 days in the office / 2 days working from home
Salary: Up to 130,000

The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced US/UK Private Client Tax Director to lead our specialist cross-border private client tax offering. This is a key leadership role within our Private Client Services team, providing technical oversight across both US and UK personal tax compliance and advisory work.
The successful candidate will act as the technical lead for our US/UK private client practice, overseeing client onboarding, scoping and pricing engagements, managing workflow across the team, and undertaking final technical review and sign-off of tax returns. The role combines technical excellence, client relationship management, team leadership and advisory work.
This opportunity arises as part of a planned succession process and offers the chance to play a central role in the continued development of a growing cross-border tax practice.
The Team
The Private Client Services team currently comprises nine dedicated professionals:
- US/UK Tax Director
- US/UK Tax Manager
- Two US/UK Tax Seniors
- UK Corporate Tax Senior Manager
- UK Tax Manager
- UK Assistant Manager
- UK Tax Assistant
- Dedicated Client Support Administrator
The US/UK team benefits from strong UK tax support resources, although the Director currently acts as the principal US tax signatory and technical lead.
Client Portfolio
The role will oversee a portfolio comprising approximately:
- 130 US tax returns
- 160 UK tax returns within the US/UK client base
In addition, the wider Private Client Services practice manages a further portfolio of approximately 350 UK-only personal tax returns.
The client base primarily consists of:
- US citizens and green card holders living in the UK
- A smaller number of UK individuals living in the US
- Employees and executives
- Retirees
- Individuals with investment portfolios and passive income streams
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
- Act as the lead technical resource for US/UK private client tax matters.
- Provide final review and sign-off of US and UK personal tax returns.
- Oversee the preparation and review of US individual income tax returns, including exposure to Forms 5471 and related international reporting requirements.
- Ensure technical quality, consistency and risk management across the portfolio.
- Support the ongoing development of internal processes and technical standards.
Client Management & Advisory
- Lead onboarding of new clients.
- Scope engagements and prepare fee proposals.
- Serve as a trusted adviser to clients on US/UK cross-border tax matters.
- Respond to ad hoc client queries and planning opportunities.
- Advise clients on the tax implications of changing personal circumstances, investments, employment arrangements and residency issues.
- Build and maintain strong long-term client relationships.
Team Leadership
- Delegate work effectively across the team.
- Provide coaching, mentoring and technical support to team members.
- Support professional development, training and study programmes.
- Manage performance, wellbeing and day-to-day team operations.
- Assist in developing the next generation of technical reviewers and signatories within the practice.
Practice Development
- Contribute to the continued growth and development of the US/UK private client offering.
- Work closely with colleagues across Private Client Tax and Global Mobility Tax.
- Support business development activities and identify opportunities within the existing client base.
Candidate Profile
We are open to candidates from either a predominantly US tax or dual-qualified US/UK private client background.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Significant experience in US and/or UK private client tax.
- Strong knowledge of US individual taxation, including international reporting requirements.
- Experience reviewing and signing tax returns.
- Proven ability to manage complex cross-border client relationships.
- Strong commercial awareness, including engagement scoping and pricing.
- Experience leading, mentoring and developing professional teams.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Confidence discussing UK/US tax interactions and broader cross-border planning considerations.
Professional qualifications may include:
- EA, CPA or equivalent US tax qualification.
- ATT, CTA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent UK qualification.
- Dual-qualified candidates are particularly welcomed but not essential.
