We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established accountancy firm based in Royston, with a highly regarded payroll bureau. The firm is seeking a skilled and experienced Payroll Supervisor/Manager to join their team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a solid payroll background, either on a full-time or part-time basis (minimum of 30hrs a week). The role offers flexibility and a supportive working environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process payroll for multiple clients accurately and on time
  • Manage BACS payments and conduct regular compliance checks
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, providing expert advice and resolving queries promptly
  • Ensure thorough understanding and application of current payroll legislation
  • Handle starters, leavers, holiday pay, pension deductions, and statutory payments (SMP, SPP, SAP, SSP)
  • Issue P45s, P60s, and other required documentation
  • Liaise with HMRC, both in writing and over the phone
  • Calculate tax and NIC contributions for clients
  • Manage auto-enrolment processes, maintain pension scheme records, and make related payments
  • Complete RTI submissions and CIS returns
  • Set up and close PAYE schemes as necessary
  • Maintain accurate and organised payroll records and timesheets
  • Handle client queries and provide timely solutions
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure effective workload management

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Previous experience managing end-to-end payroll within an accountancy practice or similar environment
  • Proficiency with Sage Payroll and experience with Xero Payroll
  • Knowledge of Auto Enrolment Pensions and pension scheme management
  • Ideally, CIPP qualification (or working towards)
  • Strong mathematical and IT skills, including advanced Excel/Word/Outlook knowledge
  • A levels or equivalent education
  • Excellent attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and data integrity
  • Strong customer service skills and a proactive approach to client relationships
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Capable of working independently as well as within a team
