Location: Just outside of Cambridge – Hybrid working

Salary: £40,000 – £55,000 (DOE)

AJ Chambers are working on an exciting opportunity to join a well-established and forward-thinking accountancy firm with a diverse and growing client base, including a significant number of high-growth tech and biotech start-ups. The firm has built a reputation for supporting innovative businesses through every stage of their journey, from fledgling ventures to established market players.

They are now looking to recruit a Management Accountant / Outsourcing Manager to join their friendly and collaborative outsourcing team. This role offers the chance to work closely with clients, lead a small team, and play a key part in shaping the future of the department, with a clear progression route to take over the leadership of the team in the coming years.

The Role

You’ll work across a varied portfolio of around 40 clients, providing hands-on management accounting, financial reporting, and advisory support. Approximately half of these clients currently receive management accounts, with a mix of monthly and quarterly reporting cycles, and others requiring VAT return preparation.

Day-to-day, you’ll:

·        Oversee and prepare management accounts for a diverse portfolio of SME clients (typically £1m-£2m turnover)

·        Review bookkeeping and VAT returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance

·        Liaise directly with business owners and finance teams, offering commercial insights and financial recommendations

·        Support start-up and scale-up clients within the high-tech and biotech sectors

·        Assist with process improvements, system migrations, and unpicking complex client issues

·        Mentor junior team members, reviewing work and helping with development

·        Play a key role in shaping the department and taking on more management responsibility as the current head transitions to retirement

About You

They are open to a range of experience levels, from QBE, newly qualified, to those with a few years’ post-qualified experience looking to step up.

You’ll bring:

·        Strong management accounts and bookkeeping experience within practice or an outsourcing environment

·        Confident use of Xero and related cloud accounting tools

·        A hands-on approach, happy to get involved in the detail where needed

·        Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong client relationships

·        Ambition and leadership potential: this role offers a clear route to managing the department
