This person will play a key role in delivering high-quality compliance and advisory work to owner-managed businesses, with a strong emphasis on Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) matters.
The role involves taking ownership of EIS compliance and advisory engagements and acting as a trusted adviser to clients and a go‑to EIS specialist within the firm.
You will work closely with senior stakeholders to identify planning opportunities, ensure technical robustness, and help drive best practice and expanding the EIS offering, to new and existing clients.
Success in this role is measured through technical accuracy, strong EIS expertise, effective team support, and proactive identification of opportunities for clients and the wider firm.

How You’ll Make a Difference
In this role, you will:
Compliance and client delivery
- Focus on clients requiring EIS advice and assisting with filing submission to HMRC and advice in general.
- Delegating work to more junior staff as appropriate
- Reviewing and preparing work to a good technical standard ahead of Director/Partner sign off
- Dealing with client queries around qualifying criteria and ability to spot and communicate potential issues in eligibility for the scheme
- Spotting opportunities to market the work to new clients and identify existing clients where they would benefit from considering share schemes and awards
- Actively manage WIP and reporting, feeding into senior team.
- Working closely with trainees and seniors to increase efficiency on jobs, taking responsibility for their work and development
- Coaching junior team members day-to-day on EIS technical knowledge, compliance processes, and best practice
- Sharing EIS and wider OMB technical knowledge across the team through informal coaching and knowledge sharing
Advisory & Project Work
- Identify tax planning opportunities and areas where clients would benefit from written advice or project work
- Lead the scoping of advisory work, preparing fee estimates and monitoring delivery and recovery
- Draft and review advisory reports, clearances, and technical memoranda following discussions with Directors or Partners
- Support Directors and Partners in delivering advisory projects, contributing technical insight and commercial awareness
Team Leadership and Development
- Support recruitment activity by identifying skills gaps and contributing to interview and selection processes
Other attributes
- Maintaining technical knowledge: staying up to date with developments relevant to your department and demonstrating understanding of these in your work, including the sharing of learnings with the wider team
Managing Risk
- Appropriately apply risk management procedures and ensure junior team members are aware of these
Additional
Compliance work
- Completing the most complex returns which have lots of technical aspects to them, concluding on technical points and making file notes to support any decisions taken
- Being proactive in organising upcoming work: thinking a step ahead on a job and preparing for that next step
- Ensuring departmental budgets and new initiatives are followed and adhered to by junior members of staff
- Identify wider opportunities for work within the compliance review process – e.g. ERS reporting or BIK issues to review.
- Serve as a trusted first point of contract for clients’ issues and queries on individual jobs and ensure their expectations are fully understood
Project work
- Spotting tax planning opportunities or areas in which clients should be taking detailed written advice and scoping and quoting for the work (with the support of managers)
Team management
- Support those higher in the team in their team management work: analysing team data and looking for ways to make the processes and work preparation more efficient
- Act as a role model for quality, behaviour and decision-making
Other attributes
- Coaching trainees' day to day, in technical knowledge and general skills
- Identify areas of opportunity and explore these with the assistance of your line manager
- Prepare meaningful budgets and monitor progress against them
You’ll Be Ideal for This Role If You Have:
Qualifications
- ACA or ATT qualified; CTA completed, or equivalent relevant experience
Core experience
- Experience working with owner-managed businesses
- EIS-Specific / Preferred
- Strong hands-on experience with EIS compliance and advisory work
- Involvement in EIS advance assurance applications, EIS3s, and investor reporting
- Preparing or reviewing EIS-related technical analysis
- Spotting EIS planning opportunities within wider compliance work
Additional Experience
- Reviewing tax returns and managing compliance workflows
- Preparing complex tax returns and using the group module
- Writing sections for reports and clearances

- Strong technical judgement and attention to detail
- Confidence operating with autonomy, with Director / Partner oversight where appropriate
- Commercial awareness, including budgeting and recovery
