Following their awards win, we spoke with James Gosling about the values driving the firm, key challenges and the future direction of the business.
Please provide a brief overview of your business or what do you do within the company.
AJ Chambers is a specialist recruitment and M&A consultancy in the Accountancy and Legal sectors.
We support professionals across their entire career journey from entry level to Partner/Director level: owning an accountancy or legal practice, recruiting for that firm (legal or accountancy, tech, leadership or support staff), to ultimately then selling that business at retirement.
Our service includes personalised career advice, interview guidance and M&A consultancy, and market insight to connect our network with industry leaders and future employers or colleagues.
The business aspires to be a truly ‘one stop shop’ for any legal or accountancy professionals – fostering relationships that span and nurture entire careers. With over 15 years of experience recruiting world-class talent and M&A consultancy, we continue to ensure businesses achieve their business plans and objectives.

What would you attribute as the main reason for your success?
This year’s main objective was to realign with our core values. Curiosity has always been at the heart of our operation, but by putting this at the forefront of our approach we have been able to build and maintain instrumental relationships with our candidates and clients – to glowing responses.
Our specialism, knowledge and experience within the sectors we operate in is unrivalled. Truly getting to know each person involved in the recruitment or M&A process is paramount for finding the right fit, and our curiosity, knowledge and understanding of the accountancy and legal sectors allows for that.
Our focus on curiosity and attentiveness this year has not only resulted in a tremendous number of five-star reviews, but a record-breaking year, and the launching of new service lines to better serve our clients and markets.
What has been the biggest challenge you have overcome?
As a business, ironically for a recruitment business, finding the right talent and people for our own growth ambitions has been the biggest challenge this year.
We are protective of our reputation in the market and the value that we add to candidates, clients and the wider community alike, and ensure that any new team members that join AJ Chambers are the right fit and share our vision and passion.
What do you think made you stand out as a winner in the awards? Tell us about the specific project or facet of your business you believe earned you this award win.
Our reviews and client feedback are part of what makes us different. We believe the quality of our reviews was a contributing factor to winning the award. We have also been given exposure for the role we played in one of the ‘Deals of the Year’ at the Accounting Excellence Awards.

What is the next big step for you?
2026 is lining up to be a huge year of growth for AJ Chambers, not just in our core service lines but with the launch of our new Tech recruitment division and expansion into the US for our recruitment division across accountancy, legal and tech.
The market is evolving, the profile of individuals that accountancy and law firms, along with businesses, are employing is evolving as well, which is why we have recently set up our Tech recruitment desk – helping us continue to support all of our clients with their talent requirements.
Additionally, the US market is one we have looked at for some time and have slowly been building good relationships with those in our key sectors in legal and accountancy. We see this as a huge growth area of the business for 2026 and beyond.
