Bookkeeper

Location: Guildford (hybrid working)

Salary: £30,000 to £35,000

Contract: Permanent, full time (37.5 hours per week)

The Opportunity

A well-established and highly regarded accountancy practice in Guildford is looking to recruit an experienced Bookkeeper to join their friendly and growing team.

This role would suit someone from an accountancy practice background, or a bookkeeper who has managed their own client portfolio and is now looking for the structure, support, and progression offered by a professional firm.

You’ll be joining a close-knit practice with a loyal client base, where quality work, long-term relationships, and a personal approach genuinely matter.

The Role

You will manage a varied bookkeeping portfolio, working closely with clients and the wider accounts team to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant records.

Key responsibilities include:

· Bookkeeping for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies

· Maintaining records up to trial balance

· Processing purchase and sales invoices

· Managing sales, purchase, and nominal ledgers

· Preparing bank reconciliations

· Preparing and submitting VAT returns

· Managing supplier payments and client invoicing

· Liaising with clients to request records and respond to queries

· Supporting the wider team with ad-hoc accounting tasks

Technical Skills

· Strong bookkeeping experience within an accountancy practice

· Confident using Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, Dext, and Microsoft Office

· Experience preparing VAT returns under standard, cash accounting, flat rate, and partial exemption schemes

· Reconciliation of VAT, payroll, and control accounts

· Comfortable liaising with HMRC when required

About You

· AAT qualified, studying AAT, or qualified by experience

· Practice background or similar professional environment

· Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple clients

· Professional, reliable, and client-focused

· A collaborative team player
