An established and highly regarded professional services firm is looking to appoint an experienced tax professional into a specialist Tax Risk, Policy & Regulatory role.
This is an opportunity to move away from a traditional client-facing tax position and take on a role focused on the wider tax risk, regulatory and policy environment within a leading professional services business.
You will work closely with senior stakeholders across the tax practice, supporting the business in understanding and responding to changes in tax legislation, regulation and professional standards.
The Role
The position sits within a specialist team responsible for supporting the wider tax practice across tax policy, regulatory developments, risk management and quality & compliance.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Operating the firm's tax horizon-scanning process and identifying significant changes and emerging developments.
- Monitoring key UK tax, regulatory and reputational developments and assessing their potential impact.
- Supporting the design and implementation of appropriate quality and risk responses.
- Supporting governance meetings relating to tax policy, risk and regulatory matters.
- Monitoring HMRC communications and developments relating to prohibited tax avoidance arrangements.
- Developing and maintaining relevant internal guidance, resources and training.
- Providing support to senior tax stakeholders on a range of tax risk management queries.
- Advising on areas including client acceptance, engagement terms, confidentiality arrangements, contractual matters and independence considerations.
- Working with colleagues to review and improve internal processes and procedures, with a focus on efficiency, quality and risk management.
- Supporting ad hoc tax risk and regulatory projects led by senior members of the team.
- Liaising with wider risk, compliance and legal teams where appropriate.
- Researching, analysing and interpreting complex tax and regulatory developments and communicating their implications clearly to stakeholders.
About You
You will ideally be a qualified ACA, CTA or equivalent with demonstrable post-qualified experience and a strong understanding of the UK tax framework.
The successful candidate will have:
- A strong understanding of UK taxation and an interest in the development of UK tax policy.
- Familiarity with relevant professional and regulatory requirements, including PCRT and HMRC's Standard for Agents.
- An understanding of the regulatory and professional consequences surrounding tax advice and adviser conduct.
- The ability to analyse information from multiple sources and identify significant developments or emerging risks.
- Experience of researching, interpreting and applying complex technical information.
- The ability to develop practical solutions to quality, compliance and risk issues.
- Experience creating and/or delivering technical training or internal communications would be advantageous.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
- Good judgement and a methodical, analytical approach.
- A proactive and adaptable mindset, with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with senior stakeholders.
