Tax Disputes Manager
We’re looking for an experienced Tax Disputes Manager to join a growing professional services firm, based in offices across London and the South East.
You’ll play a key role in supporting the continued growth of the Tax Disputes team, taking ownership of a varied portfolio of complex matters. From leading HMRC enquiries and disclosures to advising on tax risk and managing client relationships, this role offers excellent scope to further develop your technical expertise and leadership responsibilities within a specialist and expanding field.
This is an ideal opportunity for an established Assistant Manager ready to step up, or an existing Manager seeking a new challenge within a collaborative and ambitious team.
About the role
- Managing a portfolio of tax dispute and risk management cases, including HMRC enquiries, COP8/COP9 investigations, voluntary disclosures and settlements.
- Leading the preparation and review of submissions under relevant HMRC disclosure facilities.
- Advising clients on tax risk positions, identifying potential exposure and mitigation strategies.
- Managing complex correspondence and negotiations with HMRC on behalf of clients.
- Reviewing technical reports, disclosures and advisory memoranda.
- Overseeing deadlines, workflow management and compliance requirements across the portfolio.
- Supporting and mentoring junior team members, providing technical guidance and development support.
- Working closely with Partners, Directors and wider Tax, Legal and Compliance teams on cross-disciplinary matters.
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships, acting as a trusted adviser throughout disputes processes.
- Supporting business development activity, internal process improvements and best practice initiatives.
What we’re looking for
- CTA qualified or equivalent, with strong post-qualification experience.
- Proven experience in Tax Disputes, Investigations, Private Client Tax or Corporate Tax with disputes exposure.
- Strong technical knowledge of HMRC enquiry processes, disclosures and settlements.
- Experience managing a client portfolio and handling matters independently.
- Excellent communication and relationship management skills.
- Experience supervising or mentoring junior team members.
- Commercial awareness and confidence identifying opportunities to support wider business growth.
- Background in private practice or professional services.
