Scope of Work
The VAT work naturally falls into three core buckets:
1) VAT Advisory (UK & EU)
• Ad-hoc advice for a mixture of new and existing corporate clients
• VAT implications of new income streams and supply chains
• Cross-border transactions and EU VAT nuances
• Support resolving HMRC disputes / penalties
• Input into client proposals when required

2) VAT Compliance (UK & EU)
• VAT returns on a retainer basis
• VAT registrations, de-registrations and groupings
• Review and sign-off of VAT compliance prepared by support teams
• Ensuring timely delivery and client responsiveness

3) VAT Reviews & Health Checks
• Annual VAT “health checks” across systems, processes and cash recovery
• Audit support and review of existing VAT controls
• Identifying VAT efficiency and cash-saving opportunities
• Notable model: health check is free; savings subject to a % success fee for TAP

You will also support high-profile and technically interesting projects already in motion — including:
• A Global Sports Brands VAT system & cash recovery review (UK & EU)
• Flexible work space groups VAT review (c. £100m turnover)
• Data Centres client (US-based, £1bn turnover) creating a tax obligations “Bible” detailing legislation across 22 member states
What You’ll Do
• Deliver day-to-day VAT advisory and compliance projects
• Work directly with clients and respond efficiently to queries
• Review work produced by Corporate Tax team colleagues who support with VAT delivery
• Manage deadlines and pipeline, helping ensure proposals and deliverables are issued promptly
• Identify opportunities for efficiencies and cash recovery for clients
• Support growth of the service line and help mentor junior hires in the future
(Expectation to help onboard a graduate and support team expansion as the service grows)
What We’re Looking For
We are open to candidates from practice or in-house, ideally at Assistant Manager / Manager level.
Experience that would be helpful (but not all required):
• VAT advisory and/or compliance exposure
• Confidence working directly with clients
• Strong organisational and delivery skills with the ability to get things done
• Curiosity and willingness to learn
• Good written delivery with the ability to communicate VAT clearly to non-VAT specialists
