Personal/Mixed Tax Senior

Main Purpose of the Role:
Manage mostly personal tax compliance for a large portfolio of clients with some associated corporation tax. Provide a supporting tax consultancy service to senior members of the team on a diverse range of issues such as incorporation, self-employed tax planning, capital gains tax planning, inheritance tax planning, etc.
Background:
The tax department contains a mixture of managers and staff. This role will be split between compliance and consultancy and approximately 90% personal tax and 10% corporate tax.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Responsibility for the compliance function for both personal tax and corporate tax clients. This includes:
​ Preparation of personal and corporation tax returns for a broad range of clients
​ Monitoring tax return progress to ensure timely completion and submission to the Revenue
​ Advising personal and corporate tax clients of tax liabilities due on a timely basis
​ Liaising directly with clients to ensure both accurate and prompt completion of tax returns
​ Preparation of PAYE Settlement Agreements (PSA)
​ Communicating effectively with clients both orally and in writing
​ Dealing with all client queries promptly and efficiently
​ Reporting to the client partner on all matters relevant to the client's tax affairs
2. Dealing with ad hoc tax consultancy assignments to support the Tax Partner and senior members of the team as and when required, such as:
​ Advising on the tax implications of incorporation;
​ Capital gains tax planning – principle private residence exemption, optimum use of losses
​ Taxation of share scheme options and gains
​ Assisting the Corporate Finance partner on tax issues relating to the purchase and sale of private companies, both client and referral work
​ Enterprise Investment Scheme
3. Identifying tax planning opportunities and following these through with the relevant partner
4. Dealing with detailed Revenue enquiries from inception to completion
Other Duties and Tasks:
Attend clients' premises as and when required
Work with Partners and staff to provide a personal, professional service for the benefit of both clients and the firm.

Decision Making/ Freedom to Act:
This is a senior role in which the individual works autonomously and will take necessary decisions in the ordinary course of providing a comprehensive tax service to clients.
The role involves working with Tax Managers and a Tax Junior, and reports to the Head of Global Private Client Advisory.
Supervision of Others:
The role involves delegating work to the Tax Junior and to review the work when completed, assisting the Tax Junior where necessary.
Dimensions of Job:
Responsibility for the compliance function for approx. 300 personal tax clients including high net worth individuals, partnerships, sole-traders, non-residents, and non-domiciled individuals and approx. 20 corporate tax clients, mainly owner-managed businesses.

Qualifications and Experience
A minimum of 3 years' experience in a mixed tax role within a professional practice
Good personal tax experience is essential and a working knowledge of corporate tax
ATT qualified or qualified by experience
Demonstrates a good level of understanding of own technical/ professional function
Experience of working on long term client relationships and of working on a fee basis with clients
Experience of working in an accountancy practice at a senior level
Working knowledge of Pertax an advantage
Computer literate

The Role

Role Description
As a Corporate Tax Supervisor you will report directly to our Corporate Tax Manager and Corporate Partner. You must have experience in and have detailed knowledge of all aspects of UK corporation tax and have a sound grasp of other business taxes to not only ensure clients are fully tax compliant but to also identify tax planning opportunities.
Exposure to international tax issues such as double taxation relief and double taxation treaties, Transfer pricing, thin capitalisation and CFC\'s would be ideal.
Alphatax, CCH Central, Caseware, Digita and Microsoft office software packages used. Knowledge and use of these packages would be beneficial.
