AJ Chambers are currently working with an impressive and highly successful advisory firm based in Cambridgeshire, to recruit a Personal Tax Senior for their growing, successful team.

Your portfolio will range from high net worth individuals and families, business owners, doctors, professional practices, company directors, land and property owners, entrepreneurs, retirees, and family trusts. This means you will be offered a broad portfolio of work. You will be working in a small team environment where pro-active client solutions are encouraged.

This is an interesting and varied role which provides scope for personal and career development. You will work closely with colleagues in Cambridgeshire and across the region. You will be a ‘team player’, who is also confident and capable in working independently. The role can be combined with an element of homeworking under the firm’s agile working policy.

You will deal with a wide range of compliance matters including the preparation of tax returns for individuals, partnerships, trusts and estates. You will be responsible for the completion of Capital Gains Tax returns, Inheritance Tax accounts and Trust Registration filing requirements.

The role will include the handling of HM Revenue & Customs enquiries, remuneration planning and assisting with a variety of tax advisory projects.

You will draw on your strong technical expertise to provide excellent front line client service to your portfolio, alongside reviewing self-assessment tax returns completed by other staff and assisting with their development of more junior staff. You will also be actively involved in business development activities.

You will have at least 3 years’ personal tax experience, making this a great opportunity for someone with some experience looking to move into one of the region’s most reputable firms. Our client will offer a competitive remuneration package including full study support.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • A minimum of 3 years recent practice experience within a personal tax role, or a mixed role including personal tax.
  • You should hold or be studying towards the CTA qualification (or be qualified by experience). ICAEW, ACCA and or STEP qualifications would be beneficial. Study support will be considered, if applicable.
  • Experience of successfully managing a portfolio of private clients alongside reviewing self-assessment tax returns completed by other staff. Previous exposure to all aspects of Personal Tax compliance work within a professional services environment is essential, to include:-
    • Capital Gains Tax planning
    • Remuneration planning
    • IR35
    • Trusts/Inheritance Tax
    • Benefits in Kind/P11Ds
  • Experience within in the following areas would be helpful: Statutory residence test/residence issues; agricultural/landed estate experience.
  • Accomplished in managing competing deadlines and client expectations. Skilled in controlling budgets and billing.
  • Ability to work autonomously whilst also building/developing a team. Previous experience of supervising and reviewing the work of more junior staff would be useful.
  • Ability to assist in providing technical support across the firm.
  • A high level of ICT literacy with sound knowledge of MS Word, Excel and accounting/tax software packages. Knowledge of CCH software would be beneficial.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to facilitate effective client contact and present complex findings in an accessible manner.
  • A thorough attitude and an expert eye for detail.

    About the role

    Semi-Senior Accountant to work within a busy Accounting Solutions Department in the London office, which provides a wide range of services to clients, including accounts preparation, bookkeeping and the production of management accounts and information.

    The main duties for this position will involve working on the books and records for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies (including those within groups) along with the preparation of VAT returns, statutory and management accounts.

    The ideal candidate will have relevant previous experience, have completed their AAT qualification and will be self-motivated, computer literate and have good written and verbal communication skills. Study support may be made available for candidates completing or looking to complete their ACCA qualification.

    Key tasks and responsibilities:
