Corporate Tax Senior

The Firm are a dynamic multi-disciplinary accountancy and business advisory practice operating from two offices – London and Guildford. They have 13 Partners with a wealth of knowledge and experience, and are currently seeking a Corporate Tax Senior to join their growing team in Guildford, offering a flexible working hours environment.

Main Purpose of the Role:

To manage corporate tax compliance for a portfolio of clients and to assist the Tax Partner and Tax Manager with corporate tax advisory work.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of corporate tax returns for a broad range of clients
  • Monitoring tax return progress to ensure timely completion and submission to HMRC for the corporation tax team.
  • Advising tax clients of tax liabilities due on a timely basis
  • Liaising directly with clients to ensure both accurate and prompt completion of tax returns
  • Have a good understanding of R & D tax relief and how to include such claims within the corporation tax return
  • Tax advisory duties - to attend client meetings, take notes; assist with the tax advice arising by creating documents, spreadsheets and reports for the client. Manage the progress of each advisory project. Prepare the necessary tax returns regarding the results of the project. Drafting the fees.
  • Assistance with regards to Employment taxes, including preparation of form P11Ds, assistance with PAYE settlement agreements and preparation of forms 40/42.
  • Ability to provide VAT advice to clients so needs a good basic understanding of the area.
  • Dealing with technical queries as and when required, including the following areas; PAYE and payroll-related queries, IR35 regulations and off payroll working, Basic Corporation Tax computations including capital allowance claims, Groups, overseas withholding tax set off and the new loss relief rules.
  • Preparation and submission of CT61 forms
  • Basic understanding of corporate re-organisations to assist on consultancy projects.
  • Responsibility for the Company secretarial reporting for clients in the Guildford office.
  • Identifying tax planning opportunities and following these through with the relevant partner.
  • Dealing with routine HMRC enquiries from inception to completion.

Supervision of Others:

The role involves delegating work to the Tax Junior and to review the work when completed, assisting the Tax Junior where necessary.

Dimensions of Job:

Responsibility for the compliance function for approx. 200 corporate tax clients, including owner managed businesses, Charities, Non-resident landlords etc. The role is approximately 70% compliance and 30% ad-hoc consulting work.

Qualifications and Experience


  • A minimum of 3 years’ tax experience within a professional accountancy practice
  • Ideally, CTA finalist with study support available to complete qualification
  • Demonstrates a good level of understanding of own technical/ professional function
  • Experience of working on long term client relationships and of working on a fee basis with clients
  • Computer literate; in particular a good working knowledge of Excel


  • Good working knowledge of Alphatax or CCH Corporation Tax and CCH Documents Filing

  • Excellent communication skills – able to communicate openly and honestly at all levels
  • Experience of delegating work and supervising junior members of staff
  • Gives appropriate attention to detail and has the ability to think laterally to provide a comprehensive approach to tax advice
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to develop and maintain client relationships
  • Ability to explain tax matters to clients clearly and concisely

  • Audit Senior - 3 month FTC
    £40,000 - £50,000 pro rata

    The role is 100% Audit focused Responsibility for a portfolio of clients, all communication with those clients and to make sure that work is completed in a satisfactory and timely manner Planning, execution and finalisation of all areas of the audit assignment and statutory reporting under FRS 102                Budgeting and monitoring progress against budget Manage and coach a small team of semi seniors assisting in audit assignments Produce work for the Audit Manager or Partner review clearly highlighting issues and providing potential solutions Direct communication with the client

    The Ideal Candidate

    ACA/ACCA qualified, with 2-3 years’ of practice experience of which is at least 1 year is leading audits Knowledge of CCH Accounts & CCH Pro-Audit Software and Virtual Cabinet (Document management system) Good communicator as client liaison is very important Good Audit knowledge including a grasp of current audit standards Experience managing own portfolio Able to lead audit from planning to completion unsupervised Experience of managing a small audit team
