AJ Chambers are working with a leading independent firm of chartered accountants that are looking to appoint an Audit Senior who will progress to Assistant Manager within 12 months. If you are able to in charge audit projects and review work on site, then you will progress rapidly as the corporate department continues to thrive.

As an Audit Senior, you will lead projects and mentor junior staff members in line with progressing towards management of your own client portfolio once familiar with your client base.

Audit and Assurance:

  • Undertake Audit assignments as the in charge from planning through to completion.
  • Working on a large client base from varied industry sectors to include agriculture, manufacturing, not-for-profit, solicitor and pension schemes
  • Liaise with client\'s staff to ensure all information and explanations are obtained.
  • Direction and supervision of junior staff on audit assignments to ensure work is completed efficiently and in line with the audit plan.
  • Review of junior staff work to ensure this is satisfactorily completed prior to Manager review.
  • Ensuring that work completed is evidenced and recorded on the electronic audit file.
  • Preparation of audit completion documentation for review by manager.
  • Completion of work following Manager review ensuring all issues assigned have been actioned and cleared.

Accounts & Tax Preparation:

  • Reviewing files prepared by junior staff prior to Manager review.
  • Preparation of accounts to final stage for manager review.
  • Completion of disclosure checklists.
  • Completion of work following Manager review ensuring that all issues assigned have been actioned and cleared.
  • Liaise with client\'s staff to ensure all information and explanations are obtained.
  • Research and conclusion of technical points in respect of financial reporting for review by Manager.
  • Submit corporate tax returns and identify any tax planning opportunities where appropriate.

Staff:

  • Mentor, supervise and coach junior staff assigned and contribute to non-client work.
  • Delegate tasks effectively.
  • Review work of junior staff, ensuring quality in compliance with professional standards / requirements.

Business Development / Client Management:

  • Develop client relationships, including regular client contact by telephone, meetings and electronically.
  • Awareness of business development including representing the firm at networking events.
  • Play an active role in raising the profile of the business.
  • Display a confident, accurate and reliable accounting knowledge when interacting with clients, presenting ideas and implementing strategies.
  • Actively engage with senior staff / Partners to gain a good understanding of the business.

Our client will consider someone from a smaller firm background with audit experience who wishes to increase this area of experience, or a finalist or newly qualified from an auditing firm that is looking for a swift promotion and increased responsibility.

    Audit and Accounts Senior

    AJ Chambers are currently working with a rapidly growing Regional Firm of Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors who are looking to expand their Audit and Accounts Team based in Chelmsford.

    We are looking for an Audit and Accounts Senior who is driven, has experience of working in an Accountancy Practice, and be either qualified (ACCA/ICAEW or equivalent), or be working towards final exams.

    The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate proficiency, or the ability to learn quickly, in the following areas:

    Audit of limited companies, including the planning, fieldwork and completion stages. Preparation of sole trader, partnership and limited company accounts to final stage. Preparation of corporation tax returns. Company secretarial skills, maintaining statutory books and filing forms at Companies House. Preparing management accounts for clients, including occasional site visits. VAT and P11D experience would also be an advantage. Personal tax experience including completing personal and partnership tax returns. Business tax skills, including preparing computations for sole traders and partnerships. Strong communication skills and the ability to deal with clients face to face, by telephone and in writing. Adopt a \'can do\' attitude and be able to work as part of a team.

  • Payroll Assistant / Payroll Consultant

    Payroll Assistant / Payroll Consultant

    AJ Chambers are currently working with a rapidly growing Regional Firm of Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors who are looking to expand their Payroll Team based in Spalding.

     

    Reporting to the Payroll Supervisor, the Post-holder will be responsible for the processing and reviewing of weekly, fortnightly, 4-weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual payroll schemes, processing of other payments and benefits and meeting statutory requirements for the Bureau\'s client base.

     

    Key tasks and responsibilities

    Accurate variable data entry into payroll software for multiple pay periods. Process all new starters and leavers. Provide advice and guidance relating to payroll matters to both internal staff and clients. Understanding of statutory payment and leave legislation and its application. Be able to manually calculate statutory payments. Be competent in manual payroll calculations for various contract types. To respond to routine correspondence and enquiries from staff and clients. To maintain manual and computerised systems for each of our payroll clients. Write liability letters and post payroll documents to clients in-line with GDPR legislation. To build and maintain personable client relations. To deal with all client contact effectively and courteously. Manage Construction Industry Scheme on behalf of clients. To maintain and manage the HMRC gateways for client notices. Accurate management of client pension schemes To send client payroll through our secure portal to ensure GDPR compliance. Assist payroll team in the submission of RTI data on behalf of the client. Ensure all client files are maintained to a high standard. Ensure all payroll documentation is correctly filed on Virtual Cabinet. Ensure all payrolls are run accurately and in a timely manner with exceptional eye to detail. Assist the Payroll Manager in ad-hoc client visits and meetings. Production of payroll reports for both staff and payroll clients. Assist in ad-hoc HR projects for clients. To support the marketing of the Payroll and HR Bureau to new and existing clients. To provide an effective service for payroll transfers including ensuring accurate data entry and advice. To provide administrative support to other departments within the business on an as required basis.     Key skills and competences

    Experience of using Sage 50 Cloud payroll is advantageous; experience of using other payroll software packages is desirable although not essential. Strong administration skills are essential. Flexibility with hours and peak periods of work is essential.

    The ideal candidate will be AAT Level 3 or 4 qualified with experience of working in an Accountancy Practice. Strong technical, organisational, communication and people skills are desired.

     

    Accounting Technician

    Responsible for preparation of bookkeeping on behalf of clients ready for VAT filing and/or Management Accounts. Working with a diverse portfolio of clients including Sole Traders, Partnerships and Limited Companies. Point of contact for certain clients and dealing with general queries on Bookkeeping and VAT. Assisting team members with technical queries and professional development. Ability to assist providing on-site outsourcing services to clients.

     

    Cloud Systems

    Full understanding of the opportunities that Cloud software can provide both to the accountancy industry and clients. A passion for looking to streamline processes that saves time and improves services offered. Ability to use Cloud software – Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, Receipt Bank. As well as being open minded to new software as it becomes available. Ability to advise both clients and staff on Cloud Accounting Software.
