In-House Tax Manager (Hybrid)

A fantastic, high-profile opportunity has arisen for a Tax Manager to join the group tax team of this private equity-backed, global life sciences business which, following significant profitable growth, has annual revenues of over £700m.

In this full-time role based on the outskirts of South London, you will report to and work closely with the Senior Group Tax Manager whilst maintaining a close working relationship with the Group Finance Team and senior finance leaders across the business, including with the rest of the Group tax team and have regular interaction with the finance, legal and commercial teams.

You will relish working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment where you can quickly add value whilst developing alongside a high calibre leadership team. This role is both hands-on, and strategic advisor, so the ability to work across both ends of the range is essential.

The role offers significant scope for personal development that will suit a strong tax manager with demonstrable experience in taxation and IFRS reporting and offers considerable opportunity to add weight to your CV.

You will work with a highly flexible business that is constantly expanding. The work is very interesting with lots of M&A involvement, plus you will be working with a bunch of very talented and great people.

Your Responsibilities

Due to the significant levels of growth both organically and through acquisitions (over 20 in the past 6 years), and the ambitious plans, which include continued M&A, we are seeking a top-tier individual to join and further develop the tax department's capabilities.

Tax Accounting

  • You will lead the preparation of the quarterly and annual IFRS tax accounting for inclusion in the Group’s consolidated financial statements
  • You will prepare the consolidated financial statement notes
  • You will complete month close tasks, including reconciliation of the tax accounts
  • You are responsible for country-by-country reporting for the group
  • You are responsible for the maintenance of the Group’s effective tax rate model

Tax Compliance

  • You have responsibility for UK tax compliance (corporation tax and VAT), liaising with external providers as appropriate and managing correspondence/interaction with HMRC
  • You will have oversight of the non-UK tax compliance programme and liaison with Global tax advisors

Intellectual Property and Research & Development

  • You will assist in developing a programme to optimise R&D tax credit opportunities for the Group in the UK
  • You will assist in developing a programme to optimise patent box opportunities for the Group in the UK
  • You will assist in identifying strategy for IP management from a tax standpoint


  • You will prepare the UK VAT return
  • You will respond to auditors on the UK VAT return
  • You will liaise with cross-functional teams regarding changes within the VAT legislation

Transfer Pricing

  • You will assist in the full implementation of evolving transfer pricing arrangements across the Group working with cross-divisional/cross-functional teams
  • You will maintain a transfer pricing arrangement on an ongoing basis
  • You will assist in identifying further opportunities to optimise transfer pricing arrangements across the Group

Your Skills

  • You are ACA / ACCA / CTA qualified
  • You are an experienced tax professional
  • You are used to operating in an international business
  • You have experience in Onesource corporation tax and Onesource tax provisioning (desirable)

Your Remuneration and Rewards

    AJ Chambers are delighted to be working with a top 10 Accountancy with an alternative business structure licensed to provide legal services.

    A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a well-rounded Corporate / Commercial Lawyer to join their small and dynamic client facing team.

    Working closely with the partners, the successful candidate will provide advice to a range of clients (mainly owner-managed businesses ranging in size from £2m to £50m) across sectors including construction and manufacturing. You can expect to advise on a range of matters including corporate, commercial, commercial property and employment.

    Key Requirements:

    UK qualified lawyer with between 1 - 3 years PQE. Corporate / Commercial background with strong corporate transactional experience. Experience in dealing/advising on matters such as GDPR, IP, employment, and Commercial Property queries is highly desirable. Experience working with owner-managed businesses between £2m to £50m turnovers is desirable but not essential.

    About the role

    Semi-Senior Accountant to work within a busy Accounting Solutions Department in the London office, which provides a wide range of services to clients, including accounts preparation, bookkeeping and the production of management accounts and information.

    The main duties for this position will involve working on the books and records for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies (including those within groups) along with the preparation of VAT returns, statutory and management accounts.

    The ideal candidate will have relevant previous experience, have completed their AAT qualification and will be self-motivated, computer literate and have good written and verbal communication skills. Study support may be made available for candidates completing or looking to complete their ACCA qualification.

    Key tasks and responsibilities:

    Undertaking bookkeeping on behalf of clients (in house or at client premises), including processing transactions from documents provided by the client and reconciling control accounts, including Bank, Sales ledger, Purchase ledger and VAT The preparation and completion of client VAT returns, including liaising with the client to provide the required information, producing supporting schedules and completing the VAT return by the deadline Completing small accounts and management accounts assignments, with appropriate training, guidance and supervision.
