AJ Chambers are currently representing a market leading, mid-tier accountancy practice who are seeking Payroll Senior for their award-winning team in Basildon. The Role

As Payroll Senior, you will act as the primary point of contact for the clients for whom you are responsible in all of their dealings relating to payroll.

Day-to-day duties include:

  • Take ownership for the management of a client portfolio, acting alongside the Head of Payroll to ensure clients' needs are met
  • Take responsibility for individual assignments, ensuring the effective and timely delivery and the quality of service meets the firm's aims
  • Provide support to the management of payroll services provided by the firm
  • Provide support to a team of payroll administrators and carry out reviews of their work
  • Follow the firm's systems and processes and apply them effectively
  • Supervise and support Team Members on assignments
  • Liaise with specialists in other areas across the firm and ensure communication to clients on such matters is effective
  • Strengthen and maintain relationships with clients, contacts and the team
  • Take responsibility and be accountable for the planning and completion of the work assigned to you
  • Assist in marketing and promotional activities of the firm as requested

The Candidate

  • CIPP qualified or qualified by experience
  • Experience of working in a bureau and managing a portfolio of clients
  • Experience of managing a team of payroll administrators
  • STAR payroll software knowledge is preferable
  • Up-to-date and appropriate knowledge and skills in your technical field to enable you to fulfil the purpose of your role
  • Computer skills appropriate to your role
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

    Key Responsibilities – Corporate Services Manager:

    Audit and Accounting

    Accountable for the provision of audit and accounting services including corporate and personal tax returns and special services for a portfolio of clients. Assist in the supervision and control completion of audit assignments including assessing internal controls, systems and planning. Provide projections and forecasting information as required. Review VAT returns as required for audit/accounts assignments. Manage budgets and compliance processes. Utilise a variety of paperless software applications. Preparation of budgets for audit and accounts work. Liaise with clients for debt recovery as required.

    Client Management

    Manage a portfolio of clients. Manage and develop client relationships, including regular client contact by telephone, meetings and electronically.


    Tax Compliance / VAT

    Review completed VAT return forms. Communicate with client when VAT return is complete and submit to HMRC. Review prepared self-assessment tax returns, business and partnership tax returns to include detailed capital gains computations and preparation of schedules of income from property. Review information processed on a computerised tax software to produce returns and calculations above.

    7.   Staff

    Review work of junior staff, ensuring quality in compliance with professional standards/requirements. Ensure Partner decisions on staff are promptly implemented. Ensure staff motivation and loyalty is maintained to minimise staff turnover. Monitor and encourage improvements towards standards of work via guidance, coaching and mentoring.
