Corporate & Business Tax Senior Manager

Corporate & Business Tax Senior Manager | Top 40 Firm

The firm have identified a need for an experienced qualified tax adviser with relevant experience in the tax affairs of companies, businesses and their owners. The role will be based in Milton Keynes, but completing work for partners across offices.

The Role

The main duties will involve:

Managing the delivery of the compliance function on a designated allocation of clients, working to the local partners and working within the team to ensure consistent delivery throughout the annual cycles across the department and firm as a whole.

The compliance function covers corporate and income tax returns (partnership and personal). Where ATED, NRLR, share scheme (ERS) returns and forms P11D are required, these are managed as a centralized process, however, a good working knowledge and client liaison is still expected. As the preparation of returns and computations is wholly computerised the successful candidate will be expected to be fully conversant with the appropriate software (alphatax and CCH ideally).

The diverse client base provides a challenging range of queries and opportunities. A good working knowledge of research & development tax credits, capital allowances, corporate debt rules, group related corporate tax matters, partnerships and tax accounting is required. Wider knowledge on areas in relation to personal taxation, employment taxes, share options and venture capital reliefs will be helpful in fulfilling the role. Although ad hoc advice on their portfolio will be required, the provision of high level technical support to the Partners in advising clients on tax planning opportunities is not a required part of the role but can be incorporated should this be a requirement of the successful candidate.

Contribution to the general management of the corporate and business tax department (20+ across the 4 offices). Providing input at regular management meetings.

Assistance with the training of tax staff either on the job based or by way of participation in regular technical updates.

Appraisal of junior staff with responsibility for development and performance.

Identifying new opportunities within the client portfolio and working with the wider team to deliver additional services where appropriate.

The Person

The successful candidate will be a qualified Chartered Tax Adviser and have at least 5 years post-qualification experience of working within a business tax department of an accountancy practice. A high standard of written and verbal communication is essential. Strong organisation and time management skills will be required for the role.

We are adding to our Corporate Team focusing on larger multinational clients. This will be supporting London and Thames Valley Partners, although we are flexible on location due to agile working options available.

As Corporate Tax Manager, you will be responsible for providing tax compliance and advisory services in support of the Tax Partner to a client portfolio; maximising fee income and generating new client and consultancy work from a portfolio.

This position will also take responsibility for the management of the tax function and staff, ensuring efficient production and quality levels are met and that staff are developed to achieve their full potential.



  • Assist in delivering the firm£s tax strategy
  • Spot opportunities with clients, generate new leads and win new tax advisory work

Portfolio management:

  • Provide tax advisory services on client portfolios, maximising fee earning opportunities
  • Manage the compliance cycle for a portfolio of clients and review returns. This includes tax accounting and provisions plan, control and review work carried out by team members to ensure work is completed within timeframes and budget
  • Provide advice on a wide range of corporate tax matters both domestic and international
