AJ Chambers are currently representing a specialist manufacturing company who are seeking a CIMA Qualified Financial Controller based in Hornchurch. The Role

  • Ensure accurate on time reporting on all financial and commercial aspects of the businesses, take full control of accounting, controlling and administration, and support improvement initiatives to enable the companies to achieve operational and strategic objectives.
  • Managing Finance & Controlling and administrative functions, IT, Inventory & Purchasing.
  • Contract management (operational & administrational).
  • Responsibility for an ongoing ERP landscape optimization.
  • Continuously support the Managing Director to develop the company\'s operations cross-functionally.
  • Support the MD for an ongoing process optimization and documentation within formal SOP structure.

Day-to-day duties include:

  • Optimize controlling structures and cost calculations for products and services etc.
  • Guarantee timely and accurate statutory financial reporting, including preparation of budgets, forecasts and all reports as required.
  • Continuously improve Finance, Controlling and Administration functions.
  • Develop the company\'s operational efficiency through financial and operational performance reviews and continuous improvement initiatives related to potential cost reductions, process optimization etc.
  • Revise and enhance internal key figures and key performance indicator concepts, provide in-depth financial analysis.
  • Full administrational handling and management of insurances, lease agreements, other commercial contracts etc.

The Candidate

  • CIMA qualified or equivalent (ACMA/FCMA/CGMA).
  • Experience in manufacturing and/or industrial organisation is essential.
  • Finance & Controlling Expert with cross-functional competences, experience the conceptual set-up and implementation of operational initiatives with General Managers.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in Finance, Accounting & Controlling.
  • Understanding of month-end / year-end closing processes in both UK as well as international GAAP.
  • Experienced in heading the full Financial & Controlling function, including optimization of interfaces to sales offer, order handling, warehouse management and production processes.
  • Experienced in the revision and optimization of controlling structures, cost calculation and the implementation & enhancement of KFIs and KPIs.
  • Strong ERP experience is a must.
  • Passion to implement internal standards, processes and guidelines.
  • Very strong analytical skills, conceptual and structured thinking.
  • Strong leadership skills and track recordable to motivate and develop people.
  • Experience in working within international Corporate Group Management structures.
  • Goal and result driven innovative professional with pragmatic hands-on mentality.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a bright professional, who has some Corporate and Business Tax experience either in a specialist team or as part of a general practice or audit team and who is looking to specialise and develop in this area.  The successful candidate will be based at our clients Cambridge office, but will need to be prepared to undertake some travel between other offices and to client sites within the region, although at the present time due to the pandemic, they are largely operating a work from home model.

    Our client\'s portfolio includes business clients across the spectrum from the very small to groups turning over several hundreds of million including OMBs, subsidiaries of larger international groups, charities and LLPs.

    This is an interesting and varied role which provides real scope for personal and career development. You will work closely with managers and partners, assisting them in tax compliance and advisory matters, and with appropriate supervision, draft computations, letters and reports for manager / partner review. You will prepare key client reporting documents, adhere to cost budgets and be involved with various tax compliance and advisory matters.

    Skills required:

    Recent experience within a professional services environment giving you at least a working knowledge of Corporate and Business Tax is essential.  You should be ATT and/or AAT/ICAEW/ACCA qualified or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of experience.  You may be studying towards a relevant qualification such as ATT/CTA. Full study support towards ATT/CTA would be available (as would refresher training) if required. Must be keen to be involved in planning and technical aspects of tax, compliance and advisory work, and to develop your skills. A high level of ICT (Excel, Word) literacy is required. Experience of Alphatax and CCH software would be advantageous but is not essential. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Willingness to develop client relationships. Self-motivated, hard-working, flexible and prepared to undertake some travel within East Anglia.  A driving licence and access to your own transport is essential.

    Job Summary

    Responsible for assisting the Payroll Manager to provide a fully integrated Payroll service, to include completion of payrolls of varying frequencies as and when required, ensuring information is processed in accordance with internal procedures and in-line with statutory / legal requirements. Deputise for the Payroll Manager as required.


    Key Activities:



    Prepare and run monthly payrolls, within a specified time limit. Calculate and verify information received, including claims for sick pay, maternity / paternity / adoption pay, travelling and subsistence allowances and dealing with the implications of salary sacrifice schemes. Ensure compliance with statutory requirements. Deal with all payroll correspondence. Respond to queries from clients. Deal with all new client set up procedures. Assume responsibility for a proportion of departmental billing procedures. Set up and manage on-going auto enrolment procedures.



    Review work of junior staff, ensuring quality in compliance with professional standards/requirements. Delegate tasks effectively. Ensure board decisions on staff are promptly implemented. Ensure staff motivation and loyalty is maintained to minimise staff turnover. Ensure effective communication systems between management and staff are established and disseminated to all staff in the company to ensure coherence and a team spirit. Monitor and encourage improvements towards standards of work via guidance, coaching and mentoring. Encourage / foster a culture of continuous development.



    Undertake general administration tasks. Effectively communicate with colleagues within the organisation to promote teamwork across the group and assist in the development of internal relationships. Identify and meet personal job-related training as required. Provide assistance in terms of general and specific support to Partners and Managers as required. Undertake other reasonable work activities as determined by the Partners and Managers. Undertake appropriate training to ensure CPD criteria is met.

    Tax Manager Responsibilities


    To manage the tax compliance matters of a varied portfolio of clients.  The portfolio comprises of a mixture of directors and high net worth individuals whose tax affairs are of varying complexity.  The portfolio also includes partnerships and some Trust work. To ensure during the course of the tax year that all statutory tax returns are completed and filed on time, are accurate and in keeping with best practice, and that all follow up action is anticipated, planned and implemented.  To ensure that clients are kept informed about their obligations and deadlines and that they are kept up to date with any relevant changes in legislation or best practice. To identify and discuss with partners opportunities for tax planning. To build rapport and maintain regular contact with clients by telephone, email, letter and in person.  To organise the effective time management of own workload, planning and prioritising, and keeping the Senior Tax Manager/Tax Partner informed of any anticipated bottlenecks or problems with meeting deadlines. To undertake any ad hoc projects as requested by the partners. Provide support to partners on advisory and project tax work.  The advisory work is of a varying nature, but knowledge of a combination of Trusts, Estates, Personal Tax are essential, although a broader knowledge across business and corporate taxes would also be welcomed. Provide support across the wider Tax and Accounting Team with the provision of ad-hoc technical support for other staff members.
