We are delighted to be working with a family-owned and highly reputable commercial vehicle restoration business with three sites across Essex and Kent.

They are currently looking to add an Assistant Accountant, on a full-time basis, to their current team of three. The role will mainly focus on Bank Reconciliations and Sales Ledger, however, there will also be exposure to the wider aspects of the finance function. The role will report directly to the Financial Controller and will be office based at the premises in Grays, Essex.

Your Responsibilities

  • You will manage and reconcile the sales finance accounts.
  • You will be posting bank receipts and payments, and reconciliation of all bank accounts and credit cards across the Group of Companies.
  • You will submit sales invoices and statements to customers and manage customer relationships, assisting with arising queries.
  • You will be posting and full reconciliation of intercompany loan accounts.
  • You will complete credit checks and set up new customer accounts.
  • You’ll provide ongoing support to the Financial Controller.

Your Skills and Experience

  • If you have experience using Sage 50, this would be highly beneficial.
  • You are a confident user of Microsoft Excel (Essential), Outlook and Word.
  • You have excellent communication skills, with previous exposure to working with external parties.
  • You have excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • If you are AAT Qualified, this would be preferred.

Remuneration and Rewards

  • Up to £41,000 Base Salary (Negotiable dependent on skills and experience).

    What will your day-to-day role look like?

    This is a newly created role which provides excellent opportunities for personal and career development, growth, and progression. Your main responsibilities will include:

    Preparing accounts, including the accompanying tax computations. Assisting with the development of trainees, including reviewing their work and providing feedback. Liaising directly with clients to clear queries. Adhering to deadlines and pre-determined budgets. Working closely with managers and other team members.

    What are they looking for?

    You would ideally hold the ICAEW/ACCA qualification or be able to demonstrate that you are qualified by experience to a similar level. You would need to have previous recent experience within a UK practice environment preparing accounts and tax returns for both unincorporated and corporate clients. Previous exposure to medical sector clients would be advantageous - but is not essential. To be suited to this role, you would need to be tenacious, thorough, with a self-motivated attitude, expert eye for detail and good organisational skills.

    What experience will you have?

    As the ideal candidate, you will be ATT or CTA qualified with a minimum of 4 years’ experience in Practice. You’ll have the ability to assist with managing both a portfolio of clients and junior staff members in your team.

We are currently partnering with a market-leading Essex-based business that specialises in recovery solutions in the UK, working closely with manufacturers and insurance companies that also have an expanded network in Europe.

Reporting to the Director of Finance and Finance Manager, you will oversee the accounts department with five direct reports.

Your Responsibilities

Your month-end tasks will cover include:

  • Checking and offsetting intercompany customers/suppliers
  • Profit per contract report for the business
  • Self-bill account reconciliations
  • Aged creditors review across all companies
  • Customer statements distributions

Your daily tasks include:

  • Sales imports to be pulled into Sage
  • Setting up new customers and suppliers
  • Cashbook reconciliations and troubleshooting errors/missing items by team members
  • Chasing customer payments and sorting billing issues where possible with the billing team
  • Coaching more junior members of the team
  • Proactively coming up with better solutions for processes
  • Ad-hoc duties as required by the business

Your Skills

  • Professional accounting qualifications such as AAT, ACCA, CIMA, and ACA would be highly beneficial and individuals that are qualified by experience
  • Sage 50 experience is highly desirable
  • Experience in supervising a small team

Remuneration and Rewards

  • Base salary of £38,000 - £42,000 (Negotiable dependent on experience)
