We are currently working with an exciting Charitable organisation based in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. The business provides the catalyst that can transform the potential of people and places through the great work they do and inspiring ideas. Our client operates through a wide range of partnerships, ranging from local authorities, regional agencies, community groups, schools, and other institutions.

About the Role

You will be a key part of the senior management team, working across all sites, taking responsibility for the cross-site budgets and company accounts. You will be a passionate and skilled accountant who is AAT qualified or equivalent with proven experience. This is a fantastic opportunity for a confident accountant to take on a broad area of responsibility in a creative company.

The main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Managing finance functions
  • Processing Payroll and annual payroll reports
  • Preparation of management accounts
  • Budgets
  • Cash flow forecasting
  • Preparation and submission of VAT returns
  • Bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Maintaining fixed asset register
  • Processing and payment of invoices and expenses
  • Providing financial information and support for the Senior Management Team (SMT) across all fundraising and income-generating activity
  • Managing financial audit - taking on board feedback, and creating and implementing changes to procedures
  • Dealing with requests from auditors and CEO
  • Regular finance update in Board and SMT meetings
  • Managing Petty Cash / Funding registers / Company risk register
  • Ensure all statutory financial reporting requirements are met (e.g., Charities Commission, HMRC, Companies House)
  • Ensuring company financial information is of the highest integrity and quality with appropriate financial controls

Other Duties

  • Work actively within the Company’s Equal Opportunities, Child Protection and Vulnerable Adult and Health & Safety Policies, complying with individual responsibilities under these policies
  • Participate in the performance and development review process, taking personal responsibility for identification of learning, development, and training opportunities in discussion with line manager
  • Comply with individual responsibilities, in accordance with the role, for health and safety in the workplace
  • Undertake any other appropriate duties within the context of the job, skills, and grade, reasonably requested by the CEO and Company Board

About You

You will be AAT qualified with knowledge of Sage 50 Accounts and Payroll desirable. Experienced and confident using Microsoft Excel software (vlookup/pivot tables). You will have experience working in a Charity, although not essential as training and development can be provided. You will be highly organised, motivated, and able to work independently, with an enthusiasm to develop and learn, whilst being an active and interested part of a small but busy team delivering an ambitious programme. Management experience is not essential.

You will be working within a small, dynamic team on exciting creative projects that are based in an inspiring workplace. Free onsite parking is provided and, flexible and remote working is available.

  • Property Solicitor - Residential

    AJ Chambers are excited to be working alongside a growing and prestigious Law Practice who have a presence in both Essex and Suffolk who are looking to expand their residential property team with a qualified Solicitor.

    The role will offer the succesful candidate a clear progressive career opportunity with the potential of reaching Partner level.

    The main purpose of the role is to run a small to medium residential caseload (circa £180k fees per year) with the help of a full time paralegal. This is the complete opposite of a pile them high sell them cheap approach. The residential offering is an off shoot from the corporate client base.

    It would be a fantastic opportunity for someone who is fed up of the huge pressures residential solicitors have faced the last 2 years particularly working in larger firms who do mass conveyancing. This is a high quality service for a good price to a small number of clients.

    You must have proven experience of:

    registered and unregistered freehold and leasehold sales, purchases, mortgages/re-mortgages, transfers of equity (including matrimonial conveyancing), lease extensions, new builds, assignments of off-plan contracts, shared ownership and Right to Buy transactions.

    Candidates will need to be c5 years PQE but a client following is not essential for the role.

    A medium sized Law Firm based in the West End has clear expansion plans and is looking to grow the Private Client team with an experienced Paralegal.

    Ideally, the successful candidate will have a minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in that area but they would also consider a NQ for this role, with market salary to reflect.

    As a Private Client Paralegal you will be specialising within a wide range of estate administration work, grants of representation, distribution of estates, inheritance tax returns, applications for probate, liaising with the private property team, collating capital gains tax information and drafting income tax returns.

    This is a new, currently small, department who are looking for support for the current fee earner with a view to building/expanding so this is a graet time to join the practice.
