This is an excellent opportunity for a bright professional, who has some Corporate and Business Tax experience either in a specialist team or as part of a general practice or audit team and who is looking to specialise and develop in this area. The successful candidate will be based at our clients Cambridge office, but will need to be prepared to undertake some travel between other offices and to client sites within the region, although at the present time due to the pandemic, they are largely operating a work from home model.

Our client's portfolio includes business clients across the spectrum from the very small to groups turning over several hundreds of million including OMBs, subsidiaries of larger international groups, charities and LLPs.

This is an interesting and varied role which provides real scope for personal and career development. You will work closely with managers and partners, assisting them in tax compliance and advisory matters, and with appropriate supervision, draft computations, letters and reports for manager / partner review. You will prepare key client reporting documents, adhere to cost budgets and be involved with various tax compliance and advisory matters.

Skills required:

  • Recent experience within a professional services environment giving you at least a working knowledge of Corporate and Business Tax is essential.
  • You should be ATT and/or AAT/ICAEW/ACCA qualified or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of experience. You may be studying towards a relevant qualification such as ATT/CTA. Full study support towards ATT/CTA would be available (as would refresher training) if required.
  • Must be keen to be involved in planning and technical aspects of tax, compliance and advisory work, and to develop your skills.
  • A high level of ICT (Excel, Word) literacy is required. Experience of Alphatax and CCH software would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to develop client relationships.
  • Self-motivated, hard-working, flexible and prepared to undertake some travel within East Anglia. A driving licence and access to your own transport is essential.

    The Audit Senior will manage the audit process, to ensure the audits are of high quality.

    The Role:

    Assists in the planning, execution and finalisation of all areas of the audit assignment for manager or partner review, seeking input for areas of concern and judgement. Predominant amount of time will be spent off-site at clients’ premises. Identifies risk matters and raises with a manager and/or partner, while exercising judgement within agreed parameters. Produce work for the Manager and/or Partner review clearly highlighting issues and providing potential solutions to issues identified. Identify and understand client needs, suggest potential solutions on technical matters and communicate and agree client needs and potential solutions with managers. Active engagement with senior client staff in order to gain a good understanding of their business and ensure the efficient execution of the audit Take primary responsibility for monitoring progress against budget, and when the actual differs from the budget then gain a full understanding for the Manager. Supervise, coach and develop junior members of staff within teams, on client premises and in the office. Ensure compliance with internal (audit methodology and risk management) and external (regulatory) requirements

    The Ideal Candidate:

    ACA/ACCA Qualified Experience supervising and coaching junior members of staff on site. Working knowledge of International Auditing Standards (IAS), IFRS, UK GAAP Working knowledge of firm services, issues regarding advice, and regulation and compliance, including anti-money laundering.

This role will see you working for existing Employment Tax clients and new clients on advisory and compliance matters with the ability to convert referral opportunities (both internally and externally from a strong network) into fees for the team. The role involves a great deal of client contact.

The client base is varied and includes start-ups, SMEs, many of which are owner-managed businesses, charities and the educational sector.

External/internal promotion of Employment Tax is required to generate new opportunities including presentations and networking.

You will be reporting into the partners and assisting in all aspects of technical work. Strategically developing, marketing, and growing the Employment Tax business, with particular reference to employment tax matters.

The successful candidate should have specific experience or an interest in either International Employment tax, or share related areas (Employee share incentives and risk finance funding (EIS/SEIS))

The role has a significant degree of responsibility and autonomy in terms of how the role is delivered but will have significant managerial responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Responsibility for timely billing, debt collection, and control of recovery rates.
  • Liaising with staff and Partners, and where appropriate managing individuals as part of any project work.
  • Monitoring and managing own workload against personal chargeable hours targets by multi-tasking and setting priorities.
  • Showing potential for growing the Employment Tax team and assisting with the development of strategy.
  • Participating in performance appraisal scheme by helping to identify your own and others strengths, weaknesses and training needs.
  • Optimise communication between partners and staff. Positively supporting the future direction of the firm by proactively participating in group meetings etc.
