Audit Manager
AJ Chambers are delighted to be working with a highly progressive Top 40 Firm who are dedicated to the continual development of their staff, assisting them with their search for an Audit Manager to be based out of their Cambridge office.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a modern and highly successful firm where you will play a key role in driving the audit team forward. You will be responsible for managing a portfolio of audit and accountancy clients, working closely with audit and business advisory partners, and contributing to client service delivery, training, and liaising with other departments.
What will your day-to-day role look like?
- Reporting directly to Audit and Business Advisory Partners and liaising with other managers as required both in your base office and across the firm.
- Planning, supervision and review of audit and accounts clients. This includes being the main point of contact for clients, working closely with partners and taking responsibility for each assignment from planning to completion.
- Main point of contact for clients, liaising regularly on day-to-day issues and technical queries and adding value.
- Assisting the Audit Team with technical accounting and auditing issues.
- Actively training staff and contributing to their development. This may involve presenting to staff or being involved in the development of internal courses.
- Billing and monitoring actual costs against budgets and reporting to partners on variances and drafting bills for review by partners.
- Liaising with the Corporate Business Tax department in relation to the preparation and review of corporation tax computations.
What are they looking for?
- ACA or ACCA qualified
- Have at least 3 years management experience (post qualification)
- Be a self-starter and have proven managerial skills and experience
- Have strong technical knowledge of accounting and auditing standards (knowledge of FRS 105 and FRS 102 required, and knowledge of IFRS desirable)
- A passion to become part of a growing firm and help to promote the technical expertise of the team and increase its profile.

You would be expected to have gained a solid understanding of the basic principles of accounting in a previous role, and will be responsible for the undertaking of accounts preparation for non-audit clients, including the preparation of related tax computations/returns and the completion of personal tax returns with minimal supervision.
Principle Responsibilities:
- Prepare and check accounts from client records using a variety of software
- Deal with initial queries on accounts (by phone, email or letter) and action accordingly
- Finalise and send accounts after review
- Draft basic tax computations and complete personal tax returns
- Control of own assignment time within pre-determined budget
- Professional liaison with client and/or client⣙s staff
- Complete adhoc management accounting assignments when required
You will not be responsible for other team members directly on arrival, but in due course required to assist new trainees and less experienced members in the team as you progress with your knowledge and experience.
You would ideally be AAT, or ACA/ACCA part qualified, and have experience using Xero, Sage & QuickBooks. An up-to-date knowledge of VAT would be desirable too.
This role would suit someone who is confident, articulate and able to communicate with all levels (externally and internally), as well as being a team player liaising with all departments within the firm. As the role progresses, you would need to have the ability to build effective relationships with colleagues, partners and clients, while at the same time having the ability to prioritise your own workload to meet client deadlines and to manage competing priorities of a varying complexity.
You will have full study support in this role, as well as regular CPD, allowing you to learn technical skills and compliance in other areas of the business away for your core duties.
