    We are delighted to be working with a family-owned and highly reputable commercial vehicle restoration business with three sites across Essex and Kent.

    They are currently looking to add a Senior Finance Assistant, on a full-time basis, to their current team of three. The role will mainly focus on Bank Reconciliations and Sales Ledger, however, there will also be exposed to the wider aspects of the finance function. The role will report directly to the Financial Controller and will be office based at the premises in Grays, Essex.

    Your Responsibilities

    You will be posting bank receipts and payments, and reconciliation of all bank accounts and credit cards across the Group of Companies. You will manage and reconcile the sales finance accounts. You will be posting and full reconciliation of intercompany loan accounts. You will submit sales invoices and statements to customers and manage customer relationships, assisting with arising queries. You will complete credit checks and set up new customer accounts.     Your Skills and Experience

What will your day-to-day look like -

  • Day to day management of the Corporate Services Group: training, mentoring and developing team members

The Ideal Candidate:

  • You must be ICAEW/ACCA qualified or QBE, with a significant level of recent UK practice experience relevant to audit.
  • Strong technical knowledge of corporate accounting and audit matters (e.g UK GAAP, FRS102, IFRS) coupled with a proven ability to act as a technical resource and point of first reference for other team members.
  • Good all-round knowledge of audit and accounting software packages. Familiarity with CCH software would be advantageous. Competent MS office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Previous experience of leading audit teams including training, mentoring, and supervising staff in their day to day work.
  • Proven background in effectively managing a client portfolio. Competent WIP management and capable of achieving billing targets.
  • Capable of managing multiple deadlines and delegating work effectively within a team.
  • Good level of Corporate Tax experience: the ability to review draft Corporation Tax computations, and sufficient understanding to enable proactive dialogue with clients.
  • An interest and/or previous involvement in business development activities such as tender processes and presentations. A willingness and capability to work with the partners to continue to raise the firm£s profile and attract additional clients. Ability to support and lead business development work and networking to develop a strong network of relationships.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision, whilst capable of integrating well within a team environment.

AJ Chambers are please to be working with a top 30 firm of chartered accountant, to support them in finding an accounts assistant to join their successful and growing team.

You would be expected to have gained a solid understanding of the basic principles of accounting in a previous role, and will be responsible for the undertaking of accounts preparation for non-audit clients, including the preparation of related tax computations/returns and the completion of personal tax returns with minimal supervision.

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and check accounts from client records using a variety of software
  • Deal with initial queries on accounts (by phone, email or letter) and action accordingly
  • Finalise and send accounts after review
  • Draft basic tax computations and complete personal tax returns
  • Control of own assignment time within pre-determined budget
  • Professional liaison with client and/or client£s staff
  • Complete adhoc management accounting assignments when required

You will not be responsible for other team members directly on arrival, but in due course required to assist new trainees and less experienced members in the team as you progress with your knowledge and experience.

You would ideally be AAT, or ACA/ACCA part qualified, and have experience using Xero, Sage & QuickBooks. An up-to-date knowledge of VAT would be desirable too.

This role would suit someone who is confident, articulate and able to communicate with all levels (externally and internally), as well as being a team player liaising with all departments within the firm. As the role progresses, you would need to have the ability to build effective relationships with colleagues, partners and clients, while at the same time having the ability to prioritise your own workload to meet client deadlines and to manage competing priorities of a varying complexity.

You will have full study support in this role, as well as regular CPD, allowing you to learn technical skills and compliance in other areas of the business away for your core duties.
