Audit Manager
As the Audit Manager, you will manage specific audit clients and workflow, providing a high-quality client service experience while ensuring adherence to individual job budgets and maximum fee recovery.
About the Role
Scope/Reach & Key Relationships
- Ownership of client portfolio/contacts for ongoing management and development
- Collaborating with partners and employees across the service line
- Day-to-day audit team management responsibility
- Acting as a people manager where appropriate
- Developing and building your own network of intermediaries and prospects
- Liaising with government bodies and external organisations such as HMRC and ICAEW
Principal Accountabilities
- Plan, prioritise, and allocate audit work to ensure effective team workflow
- Establish scope and budgets for client work, providing clear briefing to team members
- Ensure client agreement on work scope and fees prior to commencement
- Deliver audit work in line with agreed budgets and standards, preparing accounts for review and sign-off
- Look for ways to maximise audit efficiency and develop expertise in technical or sector-specific areas
- Monitor work progress, maintaining communication with clients and stakeholders
- Manage instances of fee overruns to achieve mutually acceptable outcomes
- Prepare and send client invoices promptly
- Research and resolve complex or high-risk audit issues, escalating where necessary
- Hold regular workflow meetings to ensure deadlines are met and progress is tracked
Client, Internal, and External Contact
- Manage and develop a client portfolio, addressing technical or sector-specific issues
- Act as a key point of contact for client audit and other service requirements
- Ensure timely responses to client communications and fulfil commitments
- Lead audit review meetings and proactively engage clients with insights and value-added opportunities
- Provide access and support for internal departments to enable cross-selling of services
- Ensure compliance with AML, KYC reviews, engagement letters, and other client hygiene factors
Leadership, People Management, and Development
- Coach and mentor team members to maximise performance
- Set clear objectives for the audit team at the start of each project
- Monitor and provide feedback on individual and team performance
- Support recruitment efforts for new team members
- Oversee professional development and training for the audit team
Financial Management and Business Planning
- Monitor team and individual KPIs in line with business plans
- Celebrate successes and take corrective actions to address underperformance
New Business Development
- Build a network of intermediaries and generate referrals from existing clients
- Support the audit team in achieving departmental fee targets through networking, pitches, and sector-specific content creation
- Develop strong internal connections to facilitate cross-departmental support and opportunities
