The Role:

In this role you will manage the private client team in conjunction with the Tax Partner to ensure timely and accurate delivery of technical tax services. This will include:

  • Managing and servicing clients in own portfolio (which includes the most complex clients) and maintaining outside communications with clients and third parties.
  • Complete complicated client tax returns.
  • Develop deep relationships with clients.
  • Leveraging the portfolio to generate advisory work and deliver it.
  • Responsibility for departmental initiatives and programmes whilst continuing involvement in supervision, training and development of the team.
  • Ensuring tax department administration is kept up to date, and routine administration dealt with in a timely manner, such as timesheets and billing.
  • Manage workloads of junior members of the tax team.
  • Being responsible for the recruitment of graduates and more junior members of the team.
  • Line managing several individuals.
  • Identify cross selling opportunities to partner through networking.
  • Actively support Tax Partner.
  • Responsibility for departmental initiatives and programmes.
  • Maintain highest level of technical competence and apply in response to clients’ needs.
  • Having Involvement in marketing of the tax service line by attending client functions and seminars.

Essential Skills and Experience

The ideal person for this role will be well organised and able to work to agreed timescales, whilst having the ability to actively engage with clients. You will:

  • Undertake CPD in accordance with Institute and Rouse requirements and maintain up-to-date CPD record.
  • Have outstanding people management skills.
  • Identify training needs of the team and coach/supervise where required.
  • Manage workload of team and provide feedback on performance.
  • Ensure technical knowledge is up to date and seeks expert advice when required.
  • Have excellent report / advice writing skills.
  • Be experienced with capital taxes and other typical advisory aspects of personal tax
  • Be experienced with non-domiciled individuals [preferable but not essential]
  • Maintain excellent relations by communicating effectively at all levels with colleagues and clients. Accurate documentation of work and ability to use initiative.
  • Have an overview of all private client tax work.
  • Take appropriate level of responsibility to maintain a high quality of work whilst organising and managing time efficiently and effectively.
  • Be able to do technical research on areas for Partner and provide summary information on findings.
  • Plan time effectively and completes timesheets by the required deadline.
  • Maintain high professional standards of conduct and practice.
  • Qualified ATT and/or CTA – substantial relevant tax experience.

  • Property Solicitor - Residential
    £20,000 - 25,000

    AJ Chambers are excited to be working alongside a growing and prestigious Law Practice who have a presence in both Essex and Suffolk who are looking to expand their residential property team with a qualified Solicitor.

    The role will offer the succesful candidate a clear progressive career opportunity with the potential of reaching Partner level.

    The main purpose of the role is to run a small to medium residential caseload (circa £180k fees per year) with the help of a full time paralegal. This is the complete opposite of a pile them high sell them cheap approach. The residential offering is an off shoot from the corporate client base.

    It would be a fantastic opportunity for someone who is fed up of the huge pressures residential solicitors have faced the last 2 years particularly working in larger firms who do mass conveyancing. This is a high quality service for a good price to a small number of clients.

    You must have proven experience of:

    registered and unregistered freehold and leasehold sales, purchases, mortgages/re-mortgages, transfers of equity (including matrimonial conveyancing), lease extensions, new builds, assignments of off-plan contracts, shared ownership and Right to Buy transactions.

    Candidates will need to be c5 years PQE but a client following is not essential for the role.

  • Paralegal - Private Client

    A medium sized Law Firm based in the West End has clear expansion plans and is looking to grow the Private Client team with an experienced Paralegal.

    Ideally, the successful candidate will have a minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in that area but they would also consider a NQ for this role, with market salary to reflect.

    As a Private Client Paralegal you will be specialising within a wide range of estate administration work, grants of representation, distribution of estates, inheritance tax returns, applications for probate, liaising with the private property team, collating capital gains tax information and drafting income tax returns.

    This is a new, currently small, department who are looking for support for the current fee earner with a view to building/expanding so this is a graet time to join the practice.
